I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee. My research and teaching focuses on race and politics, urban politics and public policy within an American context. Much of my recent work focuses on the political emergence and ambitions of racial/ethnic minority candidates in local and state elections.
Since 2009, I’ve served as one of the principal investigators for the Local Elections in America Project (LEAP). Digitally archiving and geocoding both past and current local elections from across the country, LEAP is the only comprehensive local elections database in the US.
Since 2013, I’ve served as the principal investigator of the Candidate Data and Directory (Candidated). Building a community of stakeholders and scholars, Candidated uses a crowd-sourced platform to create a directory of the thousands of candidates running for local elections.
More details about my current and past research can be found on my curriculum vitae.
